Ever since President Obama complimented Republicans as the “Party of No,” things have been going uphill for conservatives. Scott Brown won in Massachusetts and the GOP has unified in opposition to all earmarks.
And yes, I used the word “complimented.”
Hasn’t the GOP always prided itself, or is supposed to pride itself, on being the “Party of No?” I don’t think Obama realizes that dubbing Republicans in this negative way was actually the best thing to ever happen to the GOP.
As the media and Obama try to define voters’ values, the voters that actually have a brain know that being a “Party of No” is a good, if not awesome, thing, something that I’m not sure President Obama realizes. Little did Democrats know that calling conservatives the “Party of No” would work in our favor. Showing discernment and frugality in spending are great qualities for any political party and especially conservatives. If conservatives keep “saying no” to ridiculous government spending programs, then they can expect to sweep the White House in the 2012 election.
Take the Senate version of the health care bill. At first, the bill sparked controversy for its inclusion of federal funding for abortion. Millions of citizens objected to federally funded abortion. So, Democrats decided that sneaking this bill through Reconciliation could potentially hide abortion language in the bill. But Republicans are taking a united stand against this potential abuse of law by Democrats.
By unanimously vowing to raise procedural points of order on all changes of the Senate Bill, Republicans will be taking a stand against this health care legislation. And it is to Republicans’ benefit to do so. Being the “Party of No” has never come at a better time. Unanimously Republicans united to vow they would vote against this bill including abortion funding.
Most recently, the GOP decided to abandon earmarks completely. Maybe it took a little name-calling for the GOP to finally realize how much citizens don’t want politicians spending their hard-earned money on earmarks and other “pork” projects.
Even Republicans on the all-elusive Appropriations budget committee are getting serious about spending. They have also decided enough is enough, and are vowing off earmarks.
The media will always use negative images like the “Party of No” (even though this is definitely a positive thing) to distract voters from true conservatism centered on frugal government spending and limited government intervention. It’s up to voters to merely look at which political party best follows through with its principles.
Liberals voted for President Obama thinking he’d bring troops home, yet we see how President Obama abandoned his constituency’s interests soon after taking office. The GOP on the other hand, has been repeatedly representing its voters with voting down earmarks, pork projects, and vehemently opposing health care programs proposed by Democrats. Funny how Obama achieves his bipartisanship-by trying to smack a negative connotation, this trite “Party of No” phrase, on a political party that actually shows discernment.
President Obama leading his “Party of Yes” by spending my money to fund another woman’s abortion is a horrible thing. I’ve worked hard to fund my education with scholarships, yet my money will go to another woman my same age that made poor decisions and now needs an abortion? This is exactly a scenario that would happen under a “Party of Yes” lead by President Obama. Everyday with Obama in office I’m just hoping the GOP will turn from the “Party of No” to the Party of “Hell No!”
If Democrats want to even stay afloat, they need to become a “Party of No.” Eventually voters will wake up and resent Dems’ massive government spending of voters’ hard earned dollars. Every Democrat that votes for abortion-funded healthcare is going to be paying the price at the polls when election time rolls around.
Kudos to Republicans for finally living up to being the “Party of No.” It’s about time the GOP follows through with principles like frugal government spending, or even better cutting spending programs completely.
