At the University of Michigan, like any other large school, you literally have thousands of choices when it comes to classes. Some are renowned for the great professors, some for being easy A's, and at the other end of the scale, some are considered direct routes to eternal misery. We at the Review have compiled a list of classes to take for the easy A and some to avoid like the plague. CLASSES TO TAKE 1. PSYCH 111 - One of the most popular classes at U-M and also one of the easiest. There are some great professors who teach this course, and most people take this class sometime before they graduate. Just don't take it with Malley though. 2. MUSICOL 123 - This Intro to Popular Music provides an overview of popular music from the Tin Pan Alley era to current times. Also an easy A. 3. ARTDES 103 - This course is titled Digital Photography for Non-Majors and satisfies the optional CE requirement. Course work includes learning about the history of photography and completing individual assignments. 4. HIST 318 - Looks at Europe during the two world wars. Should be a good intro class for history buffs, and the professor is supposed to be good too. 5. RELIGION 323 - This course focuses on the concept of Zen and seeks to introduce students to the history of this type of Buddhism and tries to discover the Zen way of life. CLASSES TO AVOID 1. MATH 115/116 etc. - Unless you absolutely have to, avoid all math classes at U-M. The exams are insane, and the courses are hard since so many people take them. 2. ECON 101 - Another major weeder class. Again, don't take if you can help it. If you have Malone, it might not seem that bad. 3. CHEM 210/211 and 215/216 - All the pre-med kids take these classes, which in itself is a good enough reason to not take them unless you have to. One of the best ways to kill your GPA. 4. ANTHRCUL 101 - Has a reputation for being one of the easiest classes, but also one of the most boring. Sure, you can satisfy your R&E and SS requirements at the same time by taking this, but unless you voluntarily want to spend class after class learning about things like corn and monkey mating, don't take. 5. POLSCI 300 - "Contemporary Political Issues" is more like contemporary liberal issues. The professor claims to take both sides of the Iraq War, healthcare, and taxes, yet he consistently seems to be speaking from the Democratic Party's talking points. Avoid this class at all costs, unless you are willing to sit through one professors' biased views.
