So you made it. Whether you went to public school and survived through the daily "fashion show" or navigated through the restrictions of private school uniforms, you became a master of style in your environment. But all of that will change in a few months. Adjusting to a new school and its academic demands is hard enough, let alone trying to assimilate a different style. Lucky for you, these popular items of clothing and accessories on campus have been indentified by the Michigan Review and you can pick through the pros and cons of each look.

Rain boots: Ann Arbor is probably one of the only places you will ever seriously wear a pair of these in public. The knee high length is a necessity for all of the monsoons that flood Southeast Michigan. And chances are, on a rainy day, you will walk past at least 3 people who have the same pair as you.

Uggs: Yes, I know they are really comfortable. But once they get water-stained and leaky inside, are they really worth it? Apparently every other person wearing them thinks so.

Leggings: This item, paired with Uggs has been a classic look on campus. If you're trying to fit in, you can't go wrong with leggings, even on the occasional sub-zero weather. Pros: Paired with shiny leggings, the guy walking past you in the Diag can check out your camel toe as well as himself. Cons: Paired with shiny leggings, the guy walking past you in the Diag can check out your camel toe as well as himself.

Wearing a sleeping bag. Oops…I mean a really really really long parka. Nothing like prepping to go out and brave the cold, bitter winters of…Southeast Michigan?

Giant large rimmed glasses: No other way to proclaim oneself as a liberal intellectual snob contemplating the intricacies of tomorrow's problems. Or that you've been digging up random "vintage" items that once belonged to your parents in your grandma's attic.

Longchamp bag: In case you're not familiar with this brand, you will be familiar with its appearance after your first week here. This seemingly plain and otherwise boring bag hangs on the shoulders of every sorority girl on campus. Comes in every color, like a Lacoste polo.

Scarf: A must have accessory no matter the season.

Pashmina scarf: For the colder months. Comes in every color.

Thin scarf: Be more creative with this one. It's summer. Wear one with a random hippie symbol that you don't know the meaning of but looks totally cool. Or a design that looks urbany/hipster-ish so people will think you hail from Manhattan instead of the Upper Peninsula. Or better, jump on the peace sign trend to announce to everyone else on campus how you feel about the current situation in Iraq.

Where to shop: Nothing else makes you fit in like coming to your 100 level Econ class and finding at least 15 other people wearing the same item as you. Places you can shop to ensure this are Urban Outfitters, American Apparel, YCI, and any store at Briarwood Mall.
